Royals Two away from Playoff Bid and Division Title
by THS Media Kevin Locsh
The Kansas City Royals are currently two wins away from winning the “American League Central” division and pushing on their hopes for another “World Series” debut.
The Royals (88-62), are only two wins away from ‘living the dream’ of going to the playoffs and trying to win their second “World Series” title since 1985. The Royals made a shocking run last year that landed them in the “Series” but they fell short in game 7 against the “San Francisco Giants.”
“For one thing, no team that lost the World Series ever had a better postseason than the one Kansas City just went through,” said Cliff Corcoran, Sports Illustrated writer .
Kansas City has had a season that could be one to remember. The Royals started the season in a barn-storming fashion. They were piecing together win after win, when professional analysts’ considered the Royals to go back into the dark this year after their stellar season last year.
The Royals proved the doubters wrong, as they make their final run toward the postseason dream.
“It sounds like the Royals are starting to make believers of the experts,” said Bill Ivie Jr. contributor to “The Bleacher Report.”
Kansas City took on the Seattle Mariners Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2015 which became a thriller toward the end of the game. The royals were down most of the game 3-1 but surely the royals weren’t going down without a fight. They gained a run in the in the seventh inning on an Eric Hosmer single, scoring Lorenzo Cain, which brought the score to 3-2 Mariners. In the bottom of the ninth, they made a last ditch effort as Jarrod Dyson hit a sacrifice fly which brought in Cain to tie the game. In the tenth inning, Cain got a huge base hit, as the speedy Paulo Orlando rounded third to make it safe by a fraction at home. The walk-off thriller was truly a sight to see and gave the fans hope for a successful postseason.
“We were kind of slipping in the mud a little bit, and then all of a sudden, we got some traction there later in the game,” said Manager Ned Yost according to MLB.com.
The Royals take on the Mariners again on Sept. 24, 2015 in the second game of the series as they have high hopes that they can win their division with a win that night. With a win and a Minnesota Twins loss, the Royals will clinch the “American League Central” division and advance to the playoffs regardless of how the rest of the season plays out. The Twins Face the Cleveland Indians on the 24th.
Kansas City is on track to be the “division” winners and are headed straight towards the top of the league. One thing is for sure, the Royals have the keys for success and it will be interesting to see all the pieces to come together and create something awe-inspiring.
